Structural Analysis to Determine the Supporting Steel Within Freshly Poured Footing - Toronto, ON

GPRS Enterprises Inc. has provided concrete scanning for several large general contractors at various projects in the downtown Toronto area. For this project, GPRS was contacted by an engineer for a structural analysis to determine the structural steel embedded within this freshly poured footing. This survey was conducted to ensure everything was up to code and that the correct amount of supporting steel was installed prior to the concrete being poured.

GPRS completed this project in a safe, time efficient, non-destructive way, and provided the client with crucial information to keep this time sensitive project on schedule. Once the scanning was completed, GPRS Project Manager Adrian Atkins walked through the scanned area with the client to explain the results of the scan. Additionally, a formal report of our findings was provided to the client. This report included photos of the job site, along with the data that was generated by our scanning equipment. The client was then able to submit this report to the engineer so that they could obtain the required approval so that they could proceed with their project.

For this project, it was important to locate and map out all structural steel within the freshly poured footing. This footing being so thick we needed to use both our 1600 and 400 MHz GPR antennas to be able to penetrate through this thick footing to ensure every piece of supporting steel for this footing was located. The 400 MHz antenna is our typical utility locating antenna designed for lower resolution then the 1600 MHz antenna but lets us penetrate deeper into the surface which in this project is exactly what we needed to do, identifying more then one layer of rebar at different depths within the footing.
